Construction Now Underway on Pipeline Road

Road sign for Pipeline Road in Coquitlam and green traffic light.

COQUITLAM, B.C., October 3, 2023 – Coquitlam residents and visitors to Town Centre Park are reminded of Metro Vancouver’s construction work along Pipeline Road, which will affect the park and traffic flow in the area.

In late September, Metro Vancouver started working on the construction of the Coquitlam Water Main – Robson to Guildford Section in order to meet the growing demand for drinking water in the region. This includes the removal of trees along Pipeline Road next to Town Centre Park to accommodate Metro Vancouver’s Coquitlam Water Main project and City of Coquitlam’s Pipeline Road Upgrade project.

Metro Vancouver and City of Coquitlam recognize the trees are valuable to the community and analyzed the possibility of relocating large trees. However, this is not possible due to transportation and storage restrictions, as well as costs. Both organizations are working together to develop a landscape restoration plan. The City of Coquitlam will lead the restoration phase, which will include tree replanting along the project site and in Town Centre Park.

Residents along Pipeline Road and in the City Centre area, should have received project information directly from Metro Vancouver. Visit the project’s webpage for more information or to sign up for project updates.

Find Parking Before You Arrive

If you’re heading to Town Centre Park, we can help you find parking. The City’s digital parking counters show visitors in real time if a lot is full and where to find empty spots elsewhere. You can even scope out parking availability before you leave home at coquitlam.ca/findparking.

Driving Tips

  • Use alternate routes to avoid delays.
  • Watch for work crews and equipment.
  • Obey all traffic control personnel and signs, including construction speed limits.
  • Be aware that anticipated start and end dates are subject to change and weather delays.

City of Coquitlam’s Pipeline Road Upgrade Project

The City of Coquitlam will be upgrading Pipeline Road from Guildford Way to David Avenue once Metro Vancouver finishes construction of the water main in that area. The project is anticipated to take place from spring 2025 to spring 2026, and will include widening the road to accommodate four lanes, adding dedicated left-turn lanes, a new multi-use pathway, improved lighting and landscaped centre medians. For questions about the City of Coquitlam’s Pipeline Road Upgrade project, please contact pipelineroad@coquitlam.ca or visit coquitlam.ca/pipelineroad

Metro Vancouver and the City of Coquitlam have been working closely together to coordinate the construction of both projects to reduce the impacts to the local community wherever possible.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
