COQUITLAM, B.C., November 30, 2023 – Scavenger hunts, pirate parties and caroling nights are just some of ways visitors can spark joy at their Lights at Lafarge experience this winter.
Light seekers who join us throughout the season can enjoy free Light Brigade activities at the Park Spark tent at the Town Centre Park Community Plaza. Coquitlam’s Park Spark staff will be onsite nightly Friday through Sunday offering a variety of fun activities, including caroling nights, scavenger hunts, themed nights and much more. Jingle Bells Night - Saturday, December 23 (5:30 - 8:30 p.m.)
It will be anything but a silent night on Saturday, December 23, at Lafarge Lake as Coquitlam hosts Jingle Bells Night. The annual event is set to return with carolers filling Town Centre Park for a seasonal sing-a-long. This year the Park Spark team has set an impressive goal of setting the world record for carolers singing Jingle Bells in unison.
The Park Spark Light Brigade will also continue to offer opportunities for the Coquitlam community to get involved in light making workshops, volunteer opportunities engaging with park visitors touring the lights, and the removal of the lights in Feburary. Plenty of Opportunities to Enjoy the Lights
Produced by the City of Coquitlam and presented by Coquitlam Centre, Lights at Lafarge is Metro Vancouver’s largest free outdoor winter lights display. The lights turn on at dusk and remain on until 10 p.m. nightly until end of February, and through midnight on New Year’s Eve.
For the best Lights at Lafarge viewing experience, skip the crowds by coming before 6 p.m. or after 8 p.m. on weeknights and avoiding weekends. The lights are a great photo opportunity any time you go—make sure to tag pictures on social media with #LightsAtLafarge and #ExploreCoquitlam.
Visitors can also check out the winter lights display at Mackin Park (1046 Brunette Avenue). This is a great option for those who want to enjoy a winter lights display without the larger crowds.
Getting to Lights at Lafarge and Mackin Park
While there is some on-site parking at Town Centre Park, the Lights at Lafarge are popular and can get busy. Event-goers are encouraged to walk, carpool or take transit. Use Translink’s Trip Planner or ride the SkyTrain to the Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station for easy access to Town Centre Park.
Located in historic Maillardville, Mackin Park is accessible by transit and has parking available on the east side of the park off King Edward Street and on the west side off Nelson Street.
