COQUITLAM, B.C., December 5, 2023 – The City of Coquitlam is providing more than $136,000 to support local non-profit and community-based organizations, for everything from conservation projects and emergency services to festivals and sports tournaments.

Fall 2023 Grant Funding and Recipients

Coquitlam Council approved Spirit of Coquitlam grants this week for 20 different groups, who will receive a total of $136,296 in funding for their projects.

The City awards Spirit of Coquitlam grants twice a year to help local organizations host events, offer community support programs, purchase equipment to support increased participation and realize capital projects to advance community goals that benefit Coquitlam residents. Successful Spirit of Coquitlam grant projects must have outcomes that align with the City’s strategic goals, as well as meeting eligibility criteria outlined in the grant guidelines.

Refer to the backgrounder below for more details on this season’s recipients.

The next Spirit of Coquitlam grant intake will open February 1, 2024. Details about the grant and application process are available at coquitlam.ca/SpiritGrant

About the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program

The Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program was created in 2002 to assist local organizations in realizing projects to advance their mandates and community goals. Since 2002, through this program, the City of Coquitlam has awarded more than $9.5 million to 242 different community organizations. Funding for the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program is derived from the Casino Host Agreement revenue. Full program details are available at coquitlam.ca/SpiritGrant

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
