COQUITLAM, B.C., January 16, 2024 – Starting on February 1, non-profit organizations serving Coquitlam will have an opportunity to apply for financial support through the City’s Spirit of Coquitlam Grant program.

Coquitlam is accepting applications for the grant program at coquitlam.ca/SpiritGrant  from February 1 to March 1, 2024.

Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program

Since the launch in 2002, Spirit of Coquitlam Grants have helped hundreds of organizations host events, purchase equipment or complete initiatives or capital projects that benefit Coquitlam residents.

The City awards Spirit of Coquitlam Grants twice a year. The spring 2024 application period targets projects taking place between spring 2024 and early winter 2025.

To be eligible for a Spirit of Coquitlam Grant, projects must take place in Coquitlam, primarily benefit Coquitlam residents, be sustainable beyond the grant funding, and have outcomes that align with the City’s strategic goals. Applicants must also be in good financial standing with the City.

Individual grant amounts will vary based on the category and project. Funding for projects is not guaranteed—it is a competitive process and priority may be given to groups who have not received funding previously. Details about the grant and application process are available at coquitlam.ca/SpiritGrant.

Grant Application Support

The City will be hosting webinars on February 7 at 7 p.m. and February 13 at 2 p.m. designed to help organizations understand the grant criteria, application process and requirements. Registration details will be available on the grant website in February.

Applicants are also encouraged to contact the Grant Coordinators at CommunityGrant@coquitlam.ca or 604-927-3571 to discuss their application before completing.

Timing for Grant Application and Awards

Based on feedback from previous grant applicants, the spring 2024 application period is now earlier in the year. Moving from a March to a February submission deadline, the application period no longer coincides with School District 43 Spring Break holidays, traditionally a busy time for many applicants.

The City will review grant applications in the spring, with Council approval and announcement of the successful applicants and funding by June 2024.

The fall intake for the Spirit of Coquitlam grant will take place in September 2024, with successful funding announcements in December.
