COQUITLAM, B.C., June 20, 2023 – The City of Coquitlam is supporting local non-profit and community-based organizations through the award of almost $190,000 in Spirit of Coquitlam grants this spring.

Spring 2023 Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program

Through the March 2023 intake for the City’s Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program, 23 projects will receive a total of $187,971 in funding. The goal of this grant is to help local organizations in offering community support programs, hosting events, purchasing equipment to support increased participation and realizing capital projects to advance community goals that benefit Coquitlam residents.

In particular, many of the grant applications approved during this intake support youth, newcomer and immigrant communities in Coquitlam, directly aligning with the City’s commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, as well as the City’s Youth Strategy.

Successful Spirit of Coquitlam grant projects must have outcomes that align with the City’s strategic goals, as well as meeting eligibility criteria outlined in the grant guidelines. Since it was created, the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program has supported more than 225 local organizations.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-kwuh-tlum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the sq̓əc̓iy̓aɁɬ təməxʷ (Katzie), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
