COQUITLAM, B.C., Aug. 23, 2023 – Registered not-for-profit organizations based in and serving Coquitlam residents can apply for financial support from the City through the fall Spirit of Coquitlam Grant program.

The City is accepting applications September 1 to October 3 at coquitlam.ca/SpiritGrant.

Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program

Focusing on supporting projects throughout Coquitlam, the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant program has supported over 250 organizations since its launch in 2002.

The program is funded from revenue received through the Province of B.C.’s Host Financial Assistance Agreement, which benefits local governments that host casinos or community gaming centres.

Through the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant program, not-for-profit societies serving Coquitlam with projects that meet the eligibility criteria receive support through six funding streams:

  • Capital Projects
  • Community Support
  • Festivals and Events
  • Playground Equipment (spring grant program only)
  • Sports Equipment
  • Sport Hosting

 Fall and Spring Grants

The City awards Spirit of Coquitlam Grants twice a year. The fall 2023 application period targets projects taking place between early winter 2024 and summer 2024.

For a list of spring 2023 Spirit of Coquitlam Grant recipients, or for more details about the grant and application process, visit coquitlam.ca/SpiritGrant.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Spirit of Coquitlam Grant, projects must:

  • take place in Coquitlam
  • primarily benefit Coquitlam residents
  • be viable beyond the grant funding and
  • have outcomes that align with the City’s strategic goals.

Applicants must also be in good financial standing with the City.

Information Webinars

To help organizations understand the grant criteria, application process and requirements, the City will be hosting two online webinars:

  • Thursday, September 14, 7 – 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, September 19, 2 – 3 p.m.

Attendees will be able to hear from previous applicants regarding their grant application experience and tips for applying.

To register for an information webinar, visit coquitlam.ca/SpiritGrant.

Applicants are also encouraged to contact the Grant Coordinator at CommunityGrant@coquitlam.ca or 604-927-3571 to discuss their application before completing.

 Timing for Grant Awards

The City will review fall Spirit of Coquitlam Grant applications in October and November 2023. Recommended recipients will be presented to Council for approval in early December and successful applicants will receive funding in December.

The application period for the spring 2024 Spirit of Coquitlam Grant is planned for February 1 to March 1, 2024, with funds intended to be distributed in June 2024.
