COQUITLAM, B.C., November 29, 2023 – Coquitlam residents can stay and play close to home in December with fun, festive activities for all ages. Residents are invited to join the City’s recreation team for a variety of programs and classes, including family events, adult workshops, and drop-in activities.

Stay and Play Holiday Activities

  • Festive Family Fun – Make new holiday traditions and memories with your family. Snuggle up during one of the many holiday movie nights, make art to share in a family art workshop, or get moving together at a family pickleball drop-in or registered family kickboxing class. One highlight of the season is the Holiday Family Fun Night on Tuesday, December 19, between 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. Come to Maillardville Community Centre (1200 Cartier Avenue) to enjoy a wide variety of festive activities such as face painting, crafts, cookie decorating, active play in the gymnasium, and even a holiday movie on the giant projector screen!
  • Kids and Youth Activities – Special holiday programs and interactive workshops for children and youth are running throughout the month. Programs for kids include holiday editions of year-round favourites, such as dance, cooking and crafts. Special Kids Night In events for 6 – 10 year olds on Saturday nights allow parents to drop the kids for a fun night of crafts, games, snacks and a movie. Youth can look forward to cooking classes, a paint night, movie nights and special holiday parties at the youth centres complete with food, fun and friends.
  • Winter Break Camps – There are still some spaces available in Winter Break Camps. Check out camps for kids 7 – 10 years old at Pinetree and Poirier Community Centres, and swim camps for kids 7 – 12 years old at City Centre Aquatic Complex. Camps for youth 11 – 14 years old are also available at Pinetree Community Centre.
  • Adult ActivitiesDogwood, Glen Pine and Maillardville Community Centre have some great ways to get into the winter spirit this season. Try a slow cooker cooking class, paint nights, festive luncheons with friends, and even a holiday variety show. You can learn new skills to use over the holiday season at a portrait photography workshop, a gift wrapping workshop or discover how to balance the stress of the season at a wellness workshop.

All Ages Drop-in Activities

Swim, skate, play and stay active this winter! Join in the fun on ice with toonie skates throughout the break including an Ugly Christmas Sweater Toonie Skate on December 24, Boxing Day Toonie Skate, New Year’s Eve Toonie Skate and more. As always, you can drop into our recreation facilities to use the fitness centres, join a group fitness class, or go for a swim. Coquitlam’s recreation facilities will be open over the December break, but operating hours are different than usual. View the drop-in schedules at coquitlam.ca/DropIn and check the facility hours at coquitlam.ca/HolidayHours. Schedules are subject to change without notice, so please call the recreation facility ahead of time if you have questions.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
