Impact of COVID-19 on Programs

Limited access to City of Coquitlam recreation facilities will begin in mid-August. This includes registered access to two arenas at Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex (PSLC) arenas, the pool at City Centre Aquatic Centre, and the fitness studios and weight rooms at both locations, along with modified participation in parks volunteer programs. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Indoor Facilities Opening & Registered Programming

We are moving ahead with our re-opening plan and will be offering pre-registered access to a number of drop-in activities to our facilities, as well as fall registered programming for September. You can read details here.

The number of visitors and participants to each facility and in the available sessions will be limited to ensure both staff and public safety, and each site will have a safety plan that includes:

  • Enhanced cleaning of touchpoints;
  • Training of staff;
  • Physical alterations to ensure distancing, such as Plexiglas barriers, signs and floor markings;
  • Use of appointments and registration to ensure physical distancing;
  • Changes to practices and programs to reduce touchpoints and ensure distancing; and
  • Limiting group sizes and adjusting locations as necessary.

Pre-registered Drop-in Access

A number of indoor activities formerly offered on a drop-in basis – including swimming at City Centre Aquatic Centre (CCAC), fitness classes at Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex (PSLC) and more – can be accessed as of Monday, Aug. 10.

  • Leisure skating at Arenas 2 and 3 at PSLC
  • Leisure swimming and aquafit at CCAC
  • Weight room access at CCAC and PSLC.

Timeslots at both facilities will be available between 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. daily.

Registration is available 24 hours in advance and will be similar to the process for booking time at outdoor pools.

Pre-registered Drop-in Fees

  • $1 for child/youth and senior
  • $2 per adult
  • $5 per family (group of 6)

The fitness and weight room drop-in sessions are 1-hour duration and the pool drop-in sessions are 40 minutes.

The gradual and safe reintroduction of indoor recreation services in Coquitlam is being guided by the City’s reopening framework, based on B.C.’s Restart Plan.

Visiting Our Facilities

When you attend one of our facilities, you’ll notice that things are a bit different. The only public allowed inside will be a registered patron, and we have assigned different entrances for the type of activity to ensure we can limit the number of human interactions and reduce potential risk of exposure to COVID-19.

Please visit the Poirier Sport & Leisure webpage to view a map indicating which entrance to use for the particular activity you registered.

You will also find more details there about the safety measures in place to protect staff and our participants, as well as a list of the equipment currently available.

Details on the correct entrance for City Centre Aquatic Complex entrance are also explained on that webpage.
